The Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management deals with the topics of hydropower as a renewable energy source, automated and optimized utilization of regulated river systems and dams, flood control and flood risk management, river navigation, river basin management as well as adaptation to climate change.
Hydroelectric power station Günzburg at Danube river in the study site of the case study "Upper Danube river".
In this context, new IT solutions (methods, tools and models) are being developed that demonstrate the hydraulic effect of different measures as well as the interplay between the fluid mechanics processes and the control of hydraulic structures. Within the objectives of the overall project WANDEL, the aims of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management are the development and regional implementation of new technical possibilities for a more efficient management of existing water resources and to reduce negative impacts of selected energy systems on the resource water.
Function in the work packages
AP1 | Investigation of regional impacts on water resources and development of technical solutions for hydraulic engineering plants to increase water use efficiency |
AP4 | Supporting exploitation of results |
